Ribeira D'Ilhas

Caught some good waves at Ribeira D'Ilhas (Ericeira) today. Glassy 1 to 1.5 meters with some washup sets!

Some random photos taken sometime in the last couple of weeks in Costa da Caparica.
The beaches sand refill is visible in some of them.

Last week

Did some surfing last Saturday back in Portugal on a relatively unknown (or so I thought) spot.
Counted at least 30 guys at the main peak when I got there, and some were getting barreled.

Took these photos after my session, with the high tide the waves got a lot smaller.

Gäddviken

A few weeks ago I rented a car for the weekend to explore a little of Sweden outside Sundsvall. Decided to go and check the closest surf spot, called Gäddviken.
It wasn't that easy to find (it's in the middle of nowhere), don't know if it breaks that often and the only swell around here is windswell...

Anyway, I'm going back to Portugal this saturday and taking two weeks off, will try to get some surf!

Norwegian Tides

While Sweden isn't exactly famous for its waves (most of its coast faces the Baltic Sea), Norway seems to be a bit different. Facing the North and Norwegian Seas, it is exposed to a lot more swell.

Anyway, found the trailer for the first Norwegian surf film, Norwegian Tides:

News...

Well, the blog has been a little slow lately. I've been working in Sweden since June, where there are not many waves...
The other guys haven't been surfing much either and, since it's summer in Portugal, waves have not been that good. The wind doesn't help either.

Back!

So, yeah! Been away for a bit, but I'll try to start posting again more often.

So, this last Thursday afternoon we went to Ericeira to surf a bit. The surf wasn't that good to be honest, but did my first surf without wetsuit this year. Managed to stay on the water for about 20 minutes ( if that much! ) just to get a taste, almost gave myself a heart attack... thank god we had two nurses surfing with us!

Gusy didn't get in the water... he did however manage to take a few photos:

Saturday we'll be doing Ericeira again.

Algarve surf trip - day 3 (and last)

Since it was our last day, we packed things in the morning and drove north through the west coast. A new swell came in, and it was huge everywhere.

Monte Clérigo:

Arrifana was the only surfable spot in the area. Too big for us though. The beach break:

This guy got a beating after bailing the wave:

The right pointbreak:

We kept driving north and checking the beaches along the way.

Odeceixe:

Zambujeira do mar:

We ended up surfing in S. Torpes, right south of Sines.
It had a lot of rips due to the pier and rivermouth, but it was the only surfable spot we found since morning.
These were taken after everybody left the water:

Algarve surf trip - day 2

On monday the winds were still a bit onshore, so everybody concentrated on the most protected beach of the Sagres area, Beliche. We stayed there all day and surfed for about 4 or 5 hours.

The worst part was walking back up to the car on the end of the day!

Last day of the trip tomorrow (or monday).

Algarve surf trip - day 1

Since Feb 5th was a holiday here, I took the 4th off and went on a surf trip with a friend last saturday to Algarve (in the south of Portugal). We arrived in the evening, so only went surfing sunday morning.
It was strong onshore on all the south coast, so the only chance was the west coast around Sagres. After some traveling through the middle of nowhere...

We finally found a spot reasonably protected from the strong winds

Had a few waves there, but the conditions were worse than what it looks. Better than nothing, though.
On the way back home, we checked Zavial, on the south coast. I'll post a video with Zavial pumping some other day.

More photos tomorrow!
